Ways to add flavor to grilled meals this summer

Since celebrating the 4th of July, I’ve been asked by a few people, “What can I do to my grilled food items to make them more exciting?” I have the perfect solutions for you. These marinades below are not only different, they also fill your food with flavor. If you want to keep your food the same, but just want to add more flavor, you should try this recipe below for “Mushroom Sauce.”

Mushroom Sauce

1 Pound of fresh mushrooms, cleaned and diced

1 stick of butter

2 Tablespoons of flour

1/2 Cup of milk

1 Cup of heavy cream

1 Tablespoon of red wine

Salt and pepper to taste

Sauté the mushrooms in the butter. Blend in the flour, cream, salt and pepper. Cook, until smooth and thick. When it’s almost ready add in the wine.

 

Spiced Cherry Marinade

1 large can of cherry pie filling

1/2 teaspoon of cloves

1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce

1/8 teaspoon of all spice

1 teaspoon of vinegar

1/4 Cup of red wine

2/3 Cup of water

Mix together and pour over your meat. Marinate for 24 hours and then grill.

 

Purple Plum Marinade

1 large can of purple plums, pitted

1/4 Cup of oil

3 Tablespoons of onions, minced

1/4 Cup of lemon juice

1/4 Cup of brown sugar

2 Tablespoons of chili sauce

1 teaspoon of Worcestershire sauce

1/2 teaspoon of ginger

1/2 Cup of water

In a blender combine the ingredients and blend until smooth. Pour over your meat and marinate it in the fridge, covered for 24 hours.

 

Poppy Seed Marinade

1/3 Cup of brown sugar

1 teaspoon of dry mustard

1 teaspoon of poppy seeds

1 teaspoon of salt

1 teaspoon of paprika

1/4 Cup of vinegar

1 Cup of olive oil

1 clove of garlic, crushed and minced

Mix all the ingredients together and pour over your selected meat. Marinade for 24 hours, covered in the refrigerator, before cooking.

 

Ricotta Cheese Marinade

1 Cup of olive oil

1 teaspoon of mixed Italian seasonings

1 teaspoon of lemon juice

1/2 teaspoon of thyme

1/2 Cup of white wine

1 Tablespoon of Worcestershire sauce

1 clove of garlic, crushed and minced

1 package of ricotta cheese

1/2 teaspoon of sugar

Salt and pepper to taste

Add all the ingredients together in an electric blender. Blend smooth and pour over your selected meat. Marinate for 24 hours, before grilling.
