Leeds has found itself in the center of a crime Tuesday afternoon that happened Friday in Irondale.
Two bodies were found in the woods off Rex Lake Road in Leeds that appear to be the missing owners of the Siesta Motel on Crestwood Boulevard in Irondale, according to al.com.
Suspect Steven Richard Mulkey gave information that led Irondale Police and Jefferson County Coroner’s office to the bodies of Ching Kao, 77, and Siumei Kao, 76, on Tuesday afternoon that were about 40 yards off a curvy section of Rex Lake Road.
Mulkey was a handyman for the couple. After being identified as a suspect, he was found on the run in Virginia, al.com said.
He is charged in Alabama with capital murder of two or more victims and is being held without bond. He remains in Virginia awaiting extradition.
A call for comment from Leeds Public Safety administrator Jim Atkinson has not been immediately returned. Check back at leedstribune.com for updates.
