Traffic light coming to busy Hwy. 119 intersection

Leeds City Council approved paying maintenance costs for new light at Highway 119 and President Street.

Traffic is about to get better on Highway 119 at President Street.

The Alabama Department of Transportation has approved a new traffic signal for that intersection, according to a statement from Mayor David Miller.

Miller said the city paid for a traffic survey and it demonstrated a signal is warranted. Miller said the city is in talks with ALDOT to determine when work will begin on the new traffic light. Signals cost about $200,000, he said, and the city is working on a cost-sharing agreement with the state to control costs.
