The latest on Buc-ee’s coming to Leeds

Leeds approved a bigger tax incentive package to get Buc-ee's to come for good.

What’s the latest on Buc-ee’s coming to Leeds?

That is the most FAQ here at the Leeds Tribune. We looked into it and have some answers for you, but we’re going to leave you hanging on a few other questions – for now.

What we know: Buc-ee’s has invested $9 million to buy 15 acres of land along Highway 78 across from the Chevron, according to Brad Watson, building inspector superintendent. That’s for sure. They’ve even paid taxes on the land.

When will giant travel station chain that many compare to a gas station on crack start building in Leeds? That is where we’re not certain. Watson does not know of a date, and Buc-ee’s general counsel and spokesman Jeff Nadalo did not immediately return a call for comment by press time. When he does, we’ll update you with the answer at

Buc-ee’s is currently building its first Alabama store in Baldwin County that will be more than 50,000 square feet and feature 120 fuel pumps. They are also hiring 250 workers for that store that opens in early 2019. Could Leeds’ store be that big? We don’t know yet and look forward to sharing the answer with you.

Buc-ee’s is based in Lake Jackson, Texas, and started in 1982. It now has 33 travel stations located in that part of Texas. The chain is growing, with its first Florida stores in the works and the second Alabama store coming in Leeds, with details to be announced.
