Leeds Elementary School was among five agencies in the Birmingham metro area to receive literacy grants from the Dollar General Literacy Foundation, according to Channel 13 WVTM.
Dollar General awarded over $100,000 in youth literacy grants to Alabama schools and nonprofit organizations, including Better Basics Inc., the Community Care Development Network and Leeds Elementary School in Jefferson County.
In Shelby County, the Pelham Park Middle School and the Shelby Elementary school received money.
The B.B. Comer Memorial Public Library Foundation in Talladega County and the Board of Trustees for the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa County were on the list.
