The Leeds/Moody LadyBUGS, the area’s leading professional organization for women, has announced their 2018 scholarship winners.
The name LadyBUGS stands for Ladies Believing, Understanding, Guiding and Serving. The group routinely lives up to its lofty goals through providing both leadership opportunities for its members, and scholarship funds for high-achieving young ladies in the Leeds and Moody communities.
Congratulations to the 2018 LadyBUGS Scholarship Winners:
Sonya Mansilla and Giovanna Hernandez are from Leeds High School and Kayla Riggs and Kayla Dawson are from Moody High School.
Each girl received a $1000 scholarship for the school of choice. Three of the girls were able to attend the June LadyBUGS meeting.
The Leeds/Moody LadyBUGS organization is a professional women’s service organization with their primary focus to raise money for these annual scholarships. This group meet the second Tuesday of each month at Noon for lunch with a guest speaker and hosts an annual fashion show luncheon in April at Cedar Grove Baptist Church as their main fundraiser.
The LadyBUGS were originally founded as a local chapter of a national organization for professional businesswomen. However, as the national organization began using funds to promote an agenda that involved political issues and lay outside the scope of service to others, the local group of lady leaders withdrew in order to focus both time and resources on leadership in the Leeds and Moody communities. Since then, the LadyBUGS have provided extensive opportunities for leadership and networking, and have provided many thousands of scholarships to our young lady leaders of the future.
The biggest fundraiser of the year for the LadyBUGS is the annual fashion show, which always draws a large audience and provides fun entertainment for the community.
