Leeds High School took another loss in the 2018 season to Elmore County Panthers on Friday night at a score of 35-28.
The Greenwave had a tough first half with three turnovers and a 21-7 deficit to make up. A score at the end of the first half helped build momentum and the team came out in the second half to score 21 points, including a 19-play drive, according to Coach Lee Gibson.
“We’re very proud of the way our guys fought and never gave up,” Gibson said. “A lot of kids grew up tonight and came into their own. They battled to the very end, and we are excited about what we think this team can accomplish.”
This is the first season for Elmore County’s head football Coach Jordan Cantrell, who was hired in February. He came to Wetumpka after four years of coaching at West Limestone.
The Leeds Tribune will update this story with more detailed stats from the game that was held at the Panthers’ stadium in Wetumpka when they are released.
