Greenwave fights but loses 28-20 to Talladega in Homecoming game

Despite a strong start and big push at the finish, the Greenwave lost their Homecoming game 28-20 to the Talladega Tigers Friday night at Leeds’ Homer Smiles Stadium.
Junior Omar Conley dominated the game for the Greenwave as quarterback, running back and more, scoring two of Leeds’ touchdowns.
Conley made a key catch of an onside kick that gave Leeds the ball back for another chance to tie up the game with 1:30 left in the game, but they couldn’t pull it out.
Leeds came out of the gate strong, scoring a touchdown with Conley running back the kickoff return to lead the Tigers 7-0.
The passing game vexed the Greenwave along with penalties.
Talladega tied up the game later in the first quarter with a pass to make it 7-7.
The Greenwave responded with a rushing touchdown by Conley but missed the extra point to make the score 13-7
The passing game again hurt the Greenwave with Talladega quarterback Nigel Scales throwing a 46-yard shot to John Ellis. They made the extra point to make the score 14-13.
Leeds switched quarterbacks between junior Omar Conley and freshman Jarod Latta throughout the game.
Talladega’s quarterback ran in a touchdown in the third quarter for a score of 21-13 then followed that one up with another touchdown six minutes later to make the score 28-13.
Greenwave had a steady push to the goal line but fumbled at the end of the third quarter
Greenwave held the Tigers in the fourth quarter for no score and put a last-minute touchdown in to make the final score 28-20.
Leeds coach Jerry Hood said he was proud of the team for playing hard. They took star Jakobi Hunter out of the game because of an injury concern. Hood said he will be back next week.
