Greenwave band invited to march in Governor’s Inauguration Parade

The Pride of the Greenwave Marching Band celebrated finding out they will be part of the Governor's Inauguration Parade in January.

The Pride of the Greenwave Marching Band has been invited to perform in the Governor’s Inauguration Parade on Jan. 14 in Montgomery.

Band Director Chip Wise said they were invited by Rep. Dickie Drake and it is “a great honor to represent Leeds.”

The governor’s office recently released information about the January 2019 event, including the theme that will be “Keep Alabama Growing.”

This will be the second time Leeds High School’s band has performed in the Governor’s parade.

“Performing in these types of events always leads to further opportunities,” Wise said. “This year, the 12 groups in our Music and Movement program will give over 60 performances. Of these groups, the Pride of the Green Wave is one of the most visible.”

Wise said they receive numerous opportunities to perform outside of school events and many pay for their participation.

“The Governor’s Parade is way for us to give back and to celebrate the city of Leeds and our great state of Alabama,” he added.
