Auditions for the Leeds Theatre and Arts Center’s latest show, 39 Steps, starts tonight and continues tomorrow at 7 p.m. at the theater at 8140 Parkway Drive.
Theater leaders say to come prepared to read from the script, bring a resume and headshot, if you have one. Director Suellen Wilkins is looking for 10-12 actors, men and women, for the many roles in the show. The main actor (male age 35-45) will not be doubled. A female actor (age 25-35) will have two roles. The other roles will be handled by an ensemble of actors ages 20 years and up.
Performance dates for the show are October 19-21 and October 26-28.
The 39 Steps play is not based on the 1915 novel, nor is it based on the 1935 movie of the same title.
The 39 Steps play is a comedy based on the characters from the novel and the movie, but handled in a Monty Python style, with actors performing multiple roles. In 2005 playwright Patrick Barlow adapted a script developed by Simon Corble and Nobby Dimon and it is this script to be performed, the theater said.
